Vella is the unofficial capital of Val Lumnezia and is located at 1240 m above sea level.
Vella is in the outer part of the valley on a gently sloping terrace in southeasterly direction. The municipality extends up to the ridge of the Mundaun-Sezner group.
Vella includes Pleif with the parish church of Sogn Vintschegn. The church is a few minutes’ walk away below the village on the edge of the plateau which abruptly descends down to the Glenner.
The village centre of Vella is characterized by handsome stone houses dating back to the de Mont family. In the village square, you will find the chapel Sogn Roc and right behind that, the Castle of Mont.
The rural character is unmistakable once you leave the main road. Pleasant wooden houses alternate with old-style stables.
For winter sports enthusiasts, Vella offers numerous opportunities: an ice field, cross-country ski trails, starting points for numerous winter hikes, and a cable car to the Obersaxen Mundaun Val Lumnezia ski region.
